Paola Petriortiz is a certified nutritionist and personal trainer with a focus on eating disorder recovery and intuitive eating. She is passionate about food, but even more about helping people cultivate a healthy relationship with it and with their bodies.
She uses a holistic approach to heal body, mind and soul to achieve true freedom. Paola Petriortiz creates content for the masses, teaches group courses and offers 1-1 consultations.
My mission is to teach, inspire and empower people trapped in false beliefs and disordered habits to heal their relationship with their body and flourish into the best version of themselves, the healthiest physically and mentally.
What inspired you to start your brand?
My own recovery from an eating disorder, anorexia nervosa. One of the things that helped me most was reading the experiences of people who had gone through it.
I wanted to provide inspiration and personal help to others who were suffering.
In addition, when I recovered, I found that many people did and believed things that were actually part of my eating disorder: the whole society was suffering from a disordered attitude towards food!
What’s your competitive advantage?
I don’t stop at just treating the “symptoms”, I dig deep to work on the root causes. For example, if a client comes to solve their binges, I provide them with coping strategies, but I place more emphasis on addressing the previous food restriction as to the underlying problem. I don’t want my clients to depend on me forever to tell them what to eat or not to eat: I teach them to reach long-term freedom and independence.
What skills helped grow your business?
I had already cultivated communication skills through different types of media: public speaking, writing articles, graphic content… This versatility when it comes to spreading my message has helped me to land various kinds of opportunities: events, collaborations, guest-posting, conferences, group classes, workshops, etc.
What skills did you improve by starting your brand?
What comes to my mind first is productivity and organization. I used to feel overwhelmed by everything I wanted to do and achieve, so I had to learn to implement a system to avoid both paralysis and chaos.
And also, branding! At first, it was all over the place, I didn’t have a defined style and the contents I created weren’t visually cohesive. With time, I’ve have developed my own style that is present in everything I make so you can tell at first sight it’s from me.
I love being part of the Creative Impact collective as I always feel understood and supported by the team and the community. Not everyone appreciates entrepreneurship!
What’s the most rewarding part of running your own brand?
When clients tell me how much I’ve helped them and I see how they overcome challenges. Getting to see the fruits of my work in other people’s lives is amazing.
You only have 5 minutes to yourself. What do you do?
Stretching. It makes me feel renewed and with more mental clarity. I tend to accumulate so much tension in my bones.
What challenges are you glad you experienced, and what have you learned from them?
Before building my current website, I had another one: it was such a mess and I was never able to monetize my services. It had a difficult name to spell, didn’t have any clear call to action, had articles about random topics and I felt like I was trying to do all the marketing strategies without focusing on anything in particular. I’m glad I decided to ditch that website and start from scratch.
Don’t try to do everything.
There are hundreds if not thousands of offers you can create, of ways to reach clients, of topics you could talk about, of styles you could apply to your graphics… But it’s better to only choose a handful.
You can always make changes or addition as time goes by, but by trying to do everything you find in business-related content you consume you’re only going to end burnt-out and resentful.
