1. Keep a Diary or Journal

This is pretty obvious, isn’t it? Keeping a diary or a journal is essential for battling writer’s block and helping you get inspired every day. Moreover, this will help you de-clutter your mind by getting all of your thoughts out and onto the paper.

It helps your mind relax and lets you release any emotions or feelings you’ve been holding back. You will also feel less anxious and stressed. According to research, it can also improve your memory and eliminate negative thoughts. You’ll feel more of a productive writer already.

2. De-Clutter Your Environment

One of the reasons for your mind to be stressed is that your environment is cluttered. This is why a great solution could be de-cluttering your environment. This can be anything from cleaning your room and folding your clothes to moving to a different country.

It is important not to make impulsive decisions when you want to de-clutter your environment. Try something small such as getting rid of old clothes and then move on to something bigger if you feel the need to.

3. Let the Past Go

Stop clinging to your past! Sometimes we find ourselves on the edge of one period in our lives and the beginning of a different one. Some people are not always ready to let go and enter a new stage of their life. This is why it is so important to let go of your past.

You can still learn from your mistakes, but it is important not to dwell on them. Learn to forgive yourself for them and don’t be spiteful is someone else made you feel bad. Look into the future with hope.

4. Stop Multitasking

This sounds counter-productive, but it is actually not. When you are multitasking, you are focusing on switching from one task to the other rather than paying that attention to the actual tasks. It’s not something many people notice, but it’s actually true.

According to a study conducted by Stanford University, heavy multitasking lowers your efficiency and can even impair your cognitive control. If you stop multitasking or at least decrease it to a minimum, you will be able to de-clutter your mind and be more productive.

5. Limit Your Information Intake

“I always make sure that I get a break after months of working. I like going on vacation at least for a week and I always make sure that I limit my social media access during that time so that I can focus on relaxing and recharging,” says Melanie Sovann, Writer at Studicus.

The problem may simply be that you are overloading from all of the information you get on a daily basis. This is why limiting your information intake can help you feel better and de-clutter your mind. Limit your social media access during your vacation for an even greater effect.

6. Start Making Decisions

Being more productive is directly related to making decisions. Besides, you may be already productive enough, but you simply don’t realize it. Making more decisions can help you feel better about yourself and de-clutter your mind.

These don’t have to be big or important decisions. Even small ones can be enough such as which colour your dog’s collar should be or which shirt you must buy. As long as it is a decision you make, it should work well enough.

7. Use Your Inner Auto-Pilot

Some daily tasks and chores can actually be set on auto-pilot for you to be able to focus on something more important and direct your attention elsewhere. Writers often feel uninspired or demotivated after giving their strength to things other than writing.

This is why as a writer you must learn to turn on your inner auto-pilot when necessary and start dedicating your efforts for the things that really matter. For example, when you are brushing your teeth, try to think of something different and let your muscle memory do the job on its own.

8. Get Your Priorities Straight

One of the best ways to de-clutter your mind is to get your priorities straight. You may not realize it, but you may be focusing on things that are not important or misunderstanding what your goals are.

Make a list of your goals and then analyze them. Cross out the ones that you don’t need and start focusing on what really matters.

9. Consider Meditating and Yoga

Meditating and yoga have proven to be extremely helpful. They help both your mind and body relax and allows people to finally find happiness in life. For a writer, this is the perfect way to de-clutter their mind and become more productive.

Start meditating for at least half an hour a day and doing yoga three or four times a week. You will see an improvement in almost every aspect of your life.

10. Take a Break or Go on Vacation

This is similar to limiting your information intake, but that can be done even without going on vacation, so taking a break or going on vacation deserves a separate section in this article.

Going on vacation every year is necessary no matter what your profession is. If you have the opportunity to have a vacation more often, take it as it is necessary for your physical and mental well-being.
